Committed to serving our community with Leadership Transparency Integrity Strength

Fellow residents of Windsor County,
My name is James, and I am proud to announce my candidacy for Sheriff of Windsor County in the 2026 election, on the democratic ticket.
Our county—from the vibrant villages of Woodstock and White River Junction to the rural beauty of Ludlow, Hartford, Barnard, and every town in between—deserves a sheriff's office that is strong, stable, and present: a department that stands ready every day, builds enduring trust, and shows up consistently for the people it serves. We've faced tough challenges together: the ongoing opioid epidemic, public safety concerns, mental health crises that demand thoughtful responses, and periods of uncertainty in our department.
But here's what inspires me most: Windsor County Sheriff's Department has an amazing team filled with years of experience and valuable feedback. These dedicated Deputies, Sergeants, and Lieutenants bring unparalleled knowledge of our communities, proven skills in de-escalation and service, and a genuine commitment to doing right by Windsor County. Their insights, earned on the front lines, are invaluable. As your sheriff, I will listen to them, empower them, support their well-being, and build on their expertise to make our department even stronger.
My vision honors that foundation while delivering a sheriff's office that is truly strong, stable, and present through proactive, community-centered solutions:
· Battling the opioid epidemic with harm reduction, connections to treatment through partnerships with local recovery programs and Vermont's vital resources—focusing on prevention and saving lives.
· Enhancing public safety through smart, evidence-based policing that emphasizes prevention, community problem-solving, and trust-building over reaction alone.
· Improving mental health response by expanding crisis intervention training, collaborating closely with Designated Agencies and providers, and treating behavioral health calls as health priorities first—breaking cycles and offering real support.
· Ensuring department stability by prioritizing officer wellness, professional development, accountability, transparency, and a culture where every team member's voice matters—creating a resilient, adaptive force that is present in our towns, stable in its operations, and strong in its service to you.
At the core is proactive community policing grounded in compassion: deputies out in neighborhoods, listening to residents, businesses, schools, and organizations; building lasting relationships; and treating everyone with dignity—whether in crisis, as a victim, or facing the justice system.
I believe in leading by partnership—with our exceptional team, with you the residents, and with all who care about Windsor County. Together, we can restore pride in our sheriff's office, create safer and healthier communities, and ensure every person has hope and support—with a department that is strong, stable, and present every single day.
I humbly ask for your ideas, your support, and your vote. Let's honor the dedication of our current team, learn from their experience, and move Windsor County forward—stronger, kinder, and more united.
Thank you.

Moving forward, my administration will prioritize rebuilding and strengthening the foundations of public safety in our rural communities. That starts with deepening community partnerships: working hand-in-hand with town select boards, schools, local businesses, mental health providers, and nonprofits to address issues like substance use, domestic violence response, traffic safety on our winding
